This is actually something really cool that runs in my family. A lot of irritants, even extreme ones don't affect us. When my Dad was in the army, he did the drill where they put you in a chamber with tear gas and you try to remain calm. He said he hardly noticed it.

Nope, I got caught in a Riptide when I was little in Oregon. I almost drowned, but I had read somewhere you're supposed to swim parallel to the beach, not directly towards it. If I was weak or hadn't read much, I probably would have died.
