A poll doesn't necessarily garuntee an outcome, it is meant to give general feedback of the question. If the majority opinion isn't giving more feedback than just answering the poll, it comes off as more of an indifferance than a strong opinion. There is a famous story of President Abraham Lincoln, taking a vote in a cabinet meeting on whether to sign the Emancipation Proclamation. All his cabinet secretaries vote nay, whereupon Lincoln raises his right hand and declares: "The ayes have it!"
I can understand why you believe that the poll was nothing more of a general question but the matter of fact is that the discussion upon speed hadn't explored different routes. Metsune/_sPolendina_ was the first to bring up this argument but in this thread he stated that a toggle could be made for those who wished to have speed and those who didn't. The simple removal of speed means those of us who actually liked the speed and thought it was useful for navigating spawn easier had this taken away without any look at a compromise or change to the system. There was also the possibility to lower the speed to make sure it doesn't affect those with higher FOV's which also wasn't fully explored. I would of been very happy with a compromise to the speed system such as a reduction of the potency or a toggle (preferably a toggle) but these options were not offered or even thought upon any further than a simple statement. Also to your point about the polls, of course the poll isn't a complete factor but this matter needed to be solved in a yes/no way unless a compromise was reached by those who wanted speed and those who didn't. You can state all you want that the poll wasn't the deciding factor but in many cases new players or whiteys could feel anxious or nervous to post on the forums which is why this thread introduced a poll system, it allows an anonymous vote between players and not respecting the decision made by the poll is ignoring a player base which regularly visits through spawn. Some greens never really visit spawn whilst for Whiteys it is their only way of navigation throughout the server. With no direct access to FFA it means that they are the ones most commonly affected by the speed/ speed removal.I think part of that was because of the discussion of changing spawns all together.
Also, in regards to polls in general,
A poll doesn't necessarily garuntee an outcome, it is meant to give general feedback of the question. If the majority opinion isn't giving more feedback than just answering the poll, it comes off as more of an indifferance than a strong opinion.
